Learn to manage your time and prioritize. Study skills, time management, and realistic goal setting are crucial to your success.

Career

As a former Director of Human Resources, Mr. Peña is keenly aware of what employers are looking for in their next hire. Learn basic skills on how to write an impressive résumé and how to “wow” them in an interview. This presentation will also cover the importance of etiquette, proper attire, and necessary level of professionalism when trying to land that job.

Giving back to the community. Résumé value and self-fulfillment. How to establish successful mentoring and other programs.

Diversity

In order to compete and succeed in a global economy and society, we must understand the concept of diversity and all it represents. A number of group exercises are available to engage in dialogue and understanding. Explore your own identity, how others may perceive you, and how you perceive others. What are the benefits of diversity? Blatant or subtle racism, sexism, homophobia on our campuses? An interactive discussion, this presentation will open your eyes.

Hazing

As an attorney in private practice, Mr. Peña represented students accused of hazing. How does a secret ritual become a criminal act? Haze me today, my brother/sister tomorrow? Illegal in many states with civil and criminal consequences, including jail. How many lives are shattered? Myth vs. Reality. Image of Greeks as a result of these senseless acts.

Hispanic Heritage Month

How did this national celebration come into existence? Diversity within the Latino community. Assimilation vs. Acculturation. How has the Latino community contributed to the greatness of our nation?

Latina/o in Higher Education

Many are the first in their families to attend an institution of higher learning. What are the cultural and societal challenges facing Latino students? Is there a sufficient support mechanism in place to accommodate the needs of this college population? Are there different challenges for male and female Latino students? Compare the educational attainment of Hispanic males and females at every level: bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral. Explore the emergence of the Latino Greek movement on our college campuses. Why Latino fraternities and Latina sororities? What challenges have these organizations faced and what success stories have they enjoyed?

Latino Community

Where do Latinos reside within the U. S.? Latino diversity. As the largest ethnic group within the U.S., has the Latino community truly achieved economic, social, and political power? What does the future hold for the Latino community?

Leadership

How do we define leadership? How do we define a leader? Are leaders born or are they made? A number of group activities are available to engage in dialogue and examine leadership roles, behaviors, and attitudes. Do you have what it takes to lead?

Motivation

Mr. Peña, the son of immigrant parents, arrived in the United States at the age of six. As an immigrant, he had to learn and mastered the English language. Raised in an urban area, he was determined to succeed and with the love and support of his family, he graduated from law school and is licensed to practice law in four states. To his personal satisfaction, he has authored and published two books. In the professional arena, he has held various senior-level, policy-making positions. Mr. Peña proudly and humbly shares what he believes has contributed to his accomplishments.

Self-Fulfillment

How do we define success? How do we prepare ourselves to obtain what we believe is important to our happiness? How do we value, retain, and build upon our achievements?

Recruitment

Do you know and understand today’s college student, the Millennial? How to sell yourself and/or your organization. You are judging them, but are they also judging you? Quality versus quantity.

Risk Management

As an attorney for almost 20 years, having served as a Prosecutor and in private practice, Mr. Peña is too familiar with the legal consequences of hazing, sexual assaults, physical altercations, and other violations of the law. A solid risk management plan protects you, your organization, the academic institution, and minimizes tragedy on your campus.

Sexual Harassment

As an attorney with experience in labor law and having authored Sexual Harassment Policies, Mr. Peña is aware of the legal mandates in this area of the law. Does your campus have a Sexual Harassment Policy? How is Sexual Harassment defined under the law and what constitutes Sexual Harassment? What are the consequences to the victim, perpetrator, and academic institution?

Social Equity

Treat others as you would like to be treated. Easier said than done? Tolerate versus Accept versus Embrace. How can we contribute to a campus climate that celebrates inclusion and equality?

Team Building

Whether you are working on a project on campus or in your occupation, you must be able to work efficiently with others. Learn basic skills to work as a team. How do you handle conflict? Communication and trust are essential components to your success. In this interactive presentation, the audience is engaged in an exercise to find solutions to a certain predicament. Only by working as a team will they prevail.
